Corey Webster Commits to the Cats

The Perth Wildcats are thrilled to announce the re-signing of elite New Zealand shooting guard Corey Webster for the next two seasons, with a team option on the second year.

34-year-old Webster was a welcome inclusion to the Wildcats last season, bringing energy and firepower to the squad and securing a pivotal role in the starting five.

Webster impressed in his first season in Perth, averaging 14.2 points per game, with several clutch performances helping the team to victory.

The three-time NBL champion said he’s excited to be remaining in Perth.

“It’s very exciting, I’m just grateful to be a part of this amazing club, and it’s another opportunity to chase a championship with a great club,” he said.

“JR (John Rillie) and Danny (Mills) have done a great job this off season, adding players and local talent to the roster so I’m very excited and can’t wait to get started.

“The environment at the Wildcats is amazing, I really fell in love with the process again, coming into training every day and working hard towards a common goal with the team and the club, and playing at RAC Arena in front of the Red Army, it was an amazing atmosphere every home game and I’m definitely looking forward to more of that.”

Perth Wildcats Head Coach John Rillie said Webster is an important piece to the roster puzzle for next season.

“Corey’s experience shows through when you are dealing with the highs or lows of a season,” he said.

“He brings great perspective to the playing group, no matter the situation.

“Where Corey really separates himself in the NBL is that he can go and get a bucket when necessary, and I will always rely on him to bring a great spirit to our group, whether at practice or on Game Day.”

General Manager of Basketball Operations Danny Mills said Webster’s experience is a huge contribution to the team.

“We are extremely excited that we’ve been able to secure Corey’s signature for another two seasons in Perth,” he said.

“The experience and professionalism he brought to the group last year, combined with his ability to score the ball, was instrumental in why we had the number one offensive rating in the league.

“As our roster has evolved this off-season, and we have deliberately gotten a lot younger, Corey will be called on to be a leader and provide that steadying influence to the team as one of the more accomplished players in the NBL”.

Webster joins Bryce Cotton, Keanu Pinder, Tai Webster, Hyrum Harris, David Okwera, Ben Henshall, Kyle Zunic, Michael Harris (development player) and Jack Andrew (development player) as contracted Wildcats players for the upcoming season.
