Perth Wildcats superstar Bryce Cotton has said that despite an impressive pre-season, the Perth Wildcats won’t be getting too far ahead of themselves as the season gets underway this weekend.
“All you can focus on is what’s ahead at the moment, we got one game coming on Sunday and you take it one game at a time,” he said.
Cotton expressed his confidence in head coach John Rillie and the team’s chemistry.
“I love the pieces that we have, everybody compliments each other’s game pretty well from what I’ve seen so far in the pre-season,” he said.
“John’s approach to the game, the way he coaches it, I think we’re very receptive to it and we buy into how he thinks, and I think our team aligns with his mentality, so we’re able to receive his message pretty easily.
“Our chemistry is probably more in-tune than I expected it to be this early, we all play very unselfish so that makes it easier on everybody when you understand that you’re playing to get the right shot, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be you every time.”
In a huge off-season signing, Brisbane Bullets acquired the services of Australian big and NBA veteran Aron Baynes for the NBL23 season.
Cotton said the Wildcats are ready for Baynes and the season-openener.
“I think he’s going to be a huge leader for them not just on Sunday but throughout the season,” he said.
“He’s got a high IQ for the game and he’s an ox, so he’s going to try and impose his force on the game, but we’re going to have the game plan for him.”
