The two-game series, held on June 28 and 29 in Gunma, Japan, will see a specially selected squad of NBL players face off against B.LEAGUE UNITED, a team made up of standouts from Japan’s premier competition. The tour marks a new milestone in the growing partnership between the NBL and the B.LEAGUE, offering a unique opportunity to showcase elite talent and foster international competition.
The Wildcats will be well represented, with both Dech and Withers bringing key strengths to the Select lineup.
A two-time NBL Champion, Sunday Dech has earned a reputation as one of the league’s premier perimeter defenders. His selection highlights not only his elite ability to lock down opposition scorers, but also his consistency, toughness, and leadership - qualities that will be crucial as the NBL Select side takes on international opposition.
With years of experience in high-pressure matchups, Dech’s inclusion adds reliability and resilience to a lineup built to be competitive in Japan.
After making 14 appearances for the Wildcats last season, Todd Withers has earned his spot on the NBL Select squad with a game ready-made for the modern international stage.
Withers combines athleticism and length to create matchup problems for opponents on both ends of the floor. His ability to space the floor and defend multiple positions makes him a valuable asset against Japan’s dynamic offensive units, he brings a level of energy and adaptability that perfectly complements the fast-paced style of play expected in this series.
For Wildcats fans, it’s another glimpse of the versatility Withers could bring into the upcoming season.
NBL Select will be coached by Simon Mitchell, the inaugural coach of the South East Melbourne Phoenix, and features a blend of championship experience and emerging stars from across the league.
The Perth Wildcats congratulate Sunday and Todd on their selection, and all eyes will be on the two-game series as they proudly represent the club on the international stage.
