Summary
The Perth Wildcats won this game in the third quarter, coming out of the locker room on a 22-2 run, outscoring the Bullets by 24 in that 10-minute stretch alone. Before that, the game was relatively close, with Brisbane holding a lead for the majority of the first half. Perth put on the defensive clamps after the main break to open up a 13-point lead at the final break. However, the Bullets hung around, managing to cut the lead back to five points halfway through the final quarter, but some big plays from Wildcats veterans saw they wouldn’t get any closer. It was Perth’s fourth-straight win. The Wildcats were without Matt Hodgson and Kevin White, while Brisbane were missing Nathan Sobey and Tyrell Harrison. It was Perth’s 13th consecutive away game.
Reaction
Scott Morrison on third quarter performance
“I was really happy with the third quarter, that was probably one of our better defensive quarters of the season. Unfortunately, we need that to get back into the game. I didn’t think we came out ready to play and made some mistakes of effort in the first half which are kind of inexcusable.
Vic Law on return to Brisbane:
“I’m just happy we won, we came out a little slow to start, but happy to come into this gym and get a win. Brisbane’s a better team than a lot of people are giving them credit for.”
Player focus
The big stat lines once again came from Bryce Cotton and Vic Law. Cotton had 22 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Law finished with 24, eight rebounds and three assists. Todd Blanchfield scored 13, Mitch Norton 12 and Michael Frazier II had nine.
