DrinkWise Preview: Round 2 – Perth Wildcats vs Adelaide 36ers

The Wildcats take on Adelaide in the annual Pink Game for breast cancer, which has become one of the most significant days on the club’s calendar.

It’s a fixture the 36ers prevailed in last season so Wagstaff knows not to take the “high-quality team” lightly.

“They’re going to come in and they’re going to be desperate,” Wagstaff said.

“They’re going to be desperate for their first win. We played them in the Blitz and I don’t think that was a true representation of where they’re at or who they are. They’re going to be desperate.

“They went down to the wire against Melbourne. Melbourne are obviously a high-quality team. We’re expecting a high-quality team.”

Perth will also looking to bounce back from their away loss to South East Melbourne on Sunday after a hard-fought win in the season opener at RAC Arena against Tasmania two days earlier.

"It was obviously a slow start on Friday," Wagstaff explained.

"We did well to pick it back up and it’s always good to get the first win of the season, especially at home.

"The second game, obviously the third quarter wasn’t great. We had some really good opportunities in the first half to extend our lead and didn’t."

For the seventh consecutive season, the Wildcats have joined forces with local charity Breast Cancer Care WA to help raise awareness and much-needed funds for breast cancer patients, survivors and their families.

Opposition watch

Adelaide will be hunting their first win of the season after dropping both of their opening-round clashes to Brisbane and Melbourne United respectively.

It will be the first of a tough double-header on the road for the 36ers, who also take on Sydney at Kudos Bank Arena on Sunday.

Last time they met

Perth Wildcats defeated the 36ers 112-97 at RAC Arena late last season with imports Bryce Cotton and Brady Manek leading the way with 23 points apiece.
