Perth Wildcats are delighted to announce former AFL superstar Nic Naitanui as the club’s No.1 ticket-holder for NBL25.

The legendary West Coast ruckman, who played 213 games during his decorated AFL career which spanned 15 years, will have the prestigious honour for at least the next two NBL seasons.

‘Nic Nat’ takes over from sports broadcasting great Dennis Cometti who’s held the position for 10 years.

While he was known for his ruck prowess and freakish athletic ability on the footy field, Naitanui also produced an iconic moment in Wildcats history when he dunked over the top of the on-court announcer during the Challenge Stadium days.

The video is still one of the most-watched on the Wildcats’ YouTube page.

“I’m super excited to start as the Wildcats’ No.1 ticket-holder ahead of what’s a massive season for the club,” the three-time All-Australian and dual John Worsfold medallist said.

“I’ve always loved basketball and the Wildcats, and have gone to countless games over the years, so this is a massive honour.

“I may not be able to dunk like I used to during the early days of my AFL career but I promise to bring a passion and energy to the sidelines as the Wildcats aim for an 11th NBL championship.”

Wildcats owner Mark Arena was rapt to have someone of Naitanui’s stature and popularity as No.1 ticket-holder.

“Nic Nat is such an iconic figure of the AFL and Australian sport,” Arena said.

“We can’t wait to welcome Nic and his family to RAC Arena and the Red Army this season.

“We’re excited to have him cheering on from the sidelines, but we’ve promised him we won’t make him dunk it again!”

Arena paid tribute to Cometti for his decade of service in the role.

“We can’t thank Dennis enough for doing the No.1 ticket-holder proud, he’ll always be an integral part of the Red Army and we plan to get him to as many games as possible in NBL25 and beyond,” he said.

The Wildcats’ NBL25 campaign kicks off at the inaugural HoopsFest against South-East Melbourne Phoenix on Friday 20 September.
