Perth Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson has revealed his desire to coach the Australian Boomers, followong the departure of Brett Brown from the position.
“I still get emotional thinking about it,” Gleeson said.
“The pain we went through is something that still burns deeply. I want to be part of Australian basketball on a world stage to win a medal. That’s a big driving force because I think I can help that.
“We were so focused on winning a medal. To be in the locker room and see the devastation on the players’ faces and all the emotion was hard.
“We’ve had sustained success at the Wildcats and built a great culture. I’ve been in the Boomers’ program and I think the timing is right to transfer some of my skills to the international scene.
“I enjoy getting players to play to their peak, identifying talent, working with that talent and getting them to be the best they can possibly be. I want to have that Australian culture of working hard for each other and being selfless because that’s where we will get sustained success.”
