The NBL's general manager of Next Stars recruitment Liam Santamaria revealed he was flooded with interest from clubs around the competition, keen to chat with the highly-rated French NBA draft prospect and about his plans for the 2023-24 season.
Sarr interviewed with the Wildcats first and was that impressed, he decided that was the only meeting he needed.
“There was a process of expression of interest from each of the clubs as to who would like to work with Alex and bring him into their mix next season,” Santamaria told The West Australian’s The Dribble Podcast.
“In his case, after receiving all those expressions of interest, he and his group decided the first meeting that they wanted to have was with the Perth Wildcats.
“Danny Mills, and John really knocked it out of the park. We also agreed that it would be a great landing spot for Alex and the process got shut down. At that point, he decided that there was no point taking any further meetings. He and everybody was comfortable going to Perth.”
After an eye-catching pre-season which saw him shoot up the draft charts, Sarr will make his NBL debut in Friday night's clash against Tasmania at RAC Arena.
He's one of eight off-season signings set to line up for the Wildcats including new imports Jordan Usher and Kristian Doolittle.
