Luke Travers is back in Perth, following a dream three months which saw him drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 20-year-old described it as a special experience.
“It’s every kid’s dream to get a foot in the door in the NBA. Just knowing I’m one step closer, but it’s good being back and looking forward to helping this team win a championship,” said Travers.
“It was unique. No other WA kid has done it, but the feedback and all the support from back home has been unreal. Unique is the best way to describe it.”
Travers caught the eye of the American basketball world with standout performances at the NBA Summer League on Las Vegas.
The Cavaliers opted to stash the versatile wing at the Wildcats for another season of development.
“I knew that if I was picked up it would be a draft and stash situation, but I knew it would be a win-win situation, given I’m coming back to a bunch of really good guys and a new coach who can help me out,” he said
“I got a lot of experience with NBA players over there, and going into Summer League, it was a confidence booster knowing I can match with those types of guys as well.
“I want to continue to work on my three-point shot, which has come a long way, as well as ball handling. It’s still the similar things I need to continue working on.”
Travers said after 12 months without a break, he’ll be looking forward to resting his body before Perth Wildcats pre-season training commences next month.
The 2022/23 schedule will be revealed next week.
