New Perth Wildcat Matt Hodgson has been released from hotel quarantine and joined his teammates for the first time on Wednesday

The 211cm centre is excited to be a Wildcat.

“It’s amazing. I’ve played with a few of these guys before on Boomers trips before, but to just be at the club is great,” he said.

“Just folding up all my clothes yesterday and to see a Wildcats jersey was pretty special. There’s a lot of history here which is something I’ve respected a lot since playing here, so to actually be a part of it and be wanted here is amazing.

“I’m very grateful to be here and I’m really excited for it.”

The big man said his focus is to get his conditioning back to where it needs to be in time for the upcoming pre-season games.

“The last two weeks have been crazy for me, having to make the decision as quick as I could, and get everything moved, so I wasn’t spending as much time doing physical prep while I was in Brisbane and then I got over here to quarantine,” he said.

“But the fact I didn’t have to do the whole two weeks means that re-conditioning phase isn’t going to take anywhere near, and I’m happy about that because the season isn’t too far away.”

Hodgson was the final player signed to the Perth Wildcats 11-man playing roster.

The season is scheduled to commence on 3 December, with pre-season games taking place next month.
