The Perth Wildcats are pleased to announce the return of talented youngster Michael Harris on a two-year deal.
The deal will see Harris in a development player position for the upcoming season, before being elevated to the main roster in NBL25.
Harris joined the club as a development player last season and etched a name for himself as a fearless go-getter, making the most of all on-court opportunities presented to him.
Awarded Most Improved Player at this year’s Perth Wildcats MVP Awards, Harris is currently playing a season in the NZNBL with the reigning champions, Otago Nuggets.
Harris said he’s excited to be returning to Perth for the upcoming season.
“I really enjoyed last season, so I’m really excited to go around a couple more times and do it all again,” he said.
“This season I’m hoping to improve on both sides of the ball and I’m hoping I can be a more complete player and help the team in a variety of ways as we look to go further in the playoffs.”
Perth Wildcats head coach John Rillie said Harris will really be able to evolve his game in the NBL.
“Michael did a great job last season of making the most of his opportunities,” he said.
“His self-belief, work ethic and his shot making ability will allow him to evolve in the NBL.
“He will find ways to generate easy baskets, whether in transition or slashing to the rim in the half court, and teams have to respect his three-point shooting.”
Perth Wildcats General Manager of Basketball Operations Danny Mills said Harris brings an exciting element to the team’s offense.
“After Michael’s first season with us and how he stepped up as a DP and worked his way into the rotation, it was a priority of ours this off-season to reward him and make sure he is in a Wildcats uniform for the foreseeable future,” he said.
“Michael’s unwavering confidence and ability to score the ball both from the perimeter and in getting on the rim brings an exciting element to how we play offensively as a team.
“We look forward to his development playing in an increased role with the Otago Nuggets this off-season and how he transitions that experience back to the NBL next year.”
Harris joins Jack Andrew as a development player for the upcoming season, with the Wildcats taking up Andrew’s second year option.
