Perth Wildcats head coach Scott Morrison is pleased with the level of improvement he has seen from his side over the last three weeks.
Morrison met his players in-person for the first time at the beginning of the NBL Blitz in Tasmania and on Friday, the Wildcats take to the court in their first regular season game of 2021/22.
“As a coach, you’re always trying to improve and never be satisfied. The same if you’re a player. I do think there’s been some great improvements and guys are getting more comfortable with the plays we’re running and the style we’re playing,” said Morrison.
“I’ve been pleased with the progress and obviously we want to keep trending upwards.
“At the end of the day, we still want to hang our hat on defence because, as good as the offence can be, there’s going to be days where you go cold or shots rim out.”
He said the fans can expect an exciting brand of “Wildcats Basketball”.
“I expect them to play hard, I expect them to play together and with a lot of heart and toughness. Getting on the floor and diving for loose balls. All a big package of stuff that we’re calling the intangibles,” he said.
“We were disappointed in that category in the first couple of games at the Blitz and as a team we had a heart-to-heart talk with each other and ourselves and realised that’s not the Perth way. It’s not the way that is going to get us to where we’re going to get to.
“The last three games were much better and I know the guys will maybe refer to those first two games in the future as a low bar that we don’t want to hit again.”
Scott Morrison coaches his first Perth Wildcats game on Friday night at RAC Arena.
Tip-off is at 6.30pm. Tickets available here.
