Perth Wildcats head coach Scott Morrison will look to Mike Kelly to provide his team with an advantage in Sunday’s clash against the Cairns Taipans.
Kelly, now Morrison’s right hand man, was the head coach at Cairns for the last two seasons.
“It’s Mike’s scout, so hopefully he has a lot of it (insight),” he said.
“We like to focus on one game at a aime, that means we have very little time to prepare for Cairns.
“Luckily, we’ve played them before and we’ve seen them, and Mike has a little advantage with the personnel. We’ll do a crash course tomorrow (Saturday) and we’ll be ready best we can.
“Again it comes down to the players providing that toughness, teamwork, effort and heart.”
Perth will be looking to back up their season-opening win over the Adelaide 36ers, where they were impressive despite missing key players.
They’ll be hoping for the debut of Michael Frazier II, who missed Friday’s game with soreness.
Cairns will be playing their first game of the season.
In the NBL Blitz, Tahjere McCall was impressive with 15..7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while big man Stephen Zimmerman had 9.3 boards per game.
Tip-off on Sunday is at 2.30pm
