The 2022 NBA Summer League is underway in Las Vegas, and there’s plenty of reasons for Perth Wildcats fans to be paying attention.
NBA2K23 Summer League, as its official titled, sees NBA teams trialling rosters made of rookie and sophomore NBA players, as well as fringe NBA players from around the world looking to catch the eye of decision-makers from the world’s premier competition.
Scouts and GMs from around the world are in attendance, closely watching players which could form a major piece of their roster for the upcoming season.
Perth Wildcats general manager of basketball operations Danny Mills is in attendance, with the Wildcats needing to fill two more roster positions for the upcoming season, both of which can be import players.
Mills has previously stated he will be eyeing off front court players to fill the available positions.
Meanwhile, Perth Wildcats young gun Luke Travers will represent the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first time at the Las Vegas showcase.
Travers was drafted by the Cavs with the 56th pick of the 2022 NBA Draft.
Cleveland’s Summer League coach Mike Gerrity said he’s impressed by the 20-year-old.
“One of the things that sticks out to me is his versatility. He can do a lot of things and has a great feel for how to play. I think he can impact the game cutting, dribbling and attacking, leading the break and bringing the ball up the floor following rebounds,” he said.
“Can probably put him at the four because of his size if you wanted to play a little smaller. He gives you all that versatility. Brings a lot to the game. You can tell guys enjoy playing with him.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers NBA2K Summer League schedule (in WA time):
5am Saturday 9 July vs San Antonio
7am Monday 11 July vs Denver
5am Thursday 14 July vs Charlotte
5.30am Friday 15 July vs Detroit
