Context
It’s been a long and unprecedented off-season for the Perth Wildcats. After falling just short of the play-offs last season, the club has undergone several changes, including appointing new head coach John Rillie. Rillie, an NBL great in his own right, is locked, loaded and ready to lead this club back to championship contention. With the addition of Rillie, and exciting new American duo TaShawn Thomas and Brady Manek, the energy around the club, the team and the coaching staff feels positive, exciting and eager to take NBL23 by storm.
Pre-game words
John Rillie on the Brisbane Bullets match-up.
"The Bullets have done a phenomenal job of acquiring talent, and at the end of the day you need talent to win games,"
"Aron Baynes, his presence, his physicality, is certainly something that every team doesn't have available so it's about us having a good game to negate that."
Roster Availability
With the return of Jesse Wagstaff and Mitch Norton to the lineup, the full Perth Wildcats 11-man roster will be suiting up for the season-opener, along with development players Michael Harris and Ollie Hayes-Brown.
Opponents to watch out for
Aron Baynes. Brisbane Bullets pulled out the big guns in the off-season, signing NBA veteran and Australian big man Aron Baynes. He’s big, he’s experienced, he has high basketball IQ and he means business.
Last time they met
The Wildcats defeated Brisbane 95-83 on Brisbane’s home court. Vic Law dominated across the board for Perth, finishing with a game-high 24 points, a team-high 8 rebounds, 4 assists, a block and a steal. Robert Franks was Brisbane’s best, managing 21 points and 8 rebounds.
