Rillie Appointed Boomers Head Coach as Wildcats Earn Selection

The Perth Wildcats will be well represented on the international stage, with John Rillie appointed Head Coach of the Australian Boomers, alongside Wildcats young stars David Okwera and Elijah Pepper, who have been named in the squad for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
The appointment marks a significant milestone, with Rillie stepping into the Boomers head coaching role for the first time, a proud moment in his career as both a player and coach.
“It’s an honour and truly one of those moments you cherish for the rest of your life,” said Rillie.
Rillie previously served as an assistant during Australia’s historic bronze medal campaign at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and was part of the coaching staff during the recent first window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
Okwera and Pepper have both been named in the 12-player squad for Window Two of qualification, reinforcing the club’s strong presence within the national program.
David Okwera rejoins the Boomers squad following an impressive season with the Perth Wildcats, where he has quickly become a fan favourite for his energy and impact when injected into the lineup.

Elijah Pepper featured in the first window of the World Cup Asian Qualifiers and will be looking to carry his outstanding Wildcats form onto the international stage in the green and gold.
Australia will face Guam at the University of Guam on 26 February before travelling to Manila to take on the Philippines on 1 March, for the second window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
