The Perth Wildcats are thrilled to announce the re-signing of club veteran Jesse Wagstaff for the 2023/24 season.
Wagstaff joined the club in 2009 and will play his 15th season as a Wildcat, which is the second-longest tenure in the club’s history – behind legend Ricky Grace.
With 445 games under his belt, Wagstaff already boasts one of the most successful careers in NBL history.
He’s won six NBL championships and played in a record nine Grand Finals, all in the Wildcats jersey.
37-year-old Wagstaff said he is excited to go around again in NBL24.
"I can't believe it's been 15 years," he said.
"It's super exciting, the Wildcats are obviously a club I know well and a club I've got great memories of and hopefully we can create some more good memories this year."
“I still feel pretty good mentally and physically, I still feel like I’m contributing on the court and off the court and to be honest, it's one of the best jobs in the world and a phenomenal opportunity.”
Perth Wildcats head coach John Rillie said Wagstaff’s experience will be invaluable to the roster this season.
“I’m elated to have Jesse return for his 15th season with the Wildcats,” he said.
“Besides his own on-court play, having him around the younger members of the roster will be invaluable, for them to see how he approaches his craft on a daily basis will help them evolve over the season and beyond.
“On the floor, his versatility and approach to the game brings a spirit in a way that very few players can command.”
Perth Wildcats General Manager of Basketball Operations Danny Mills said Wagstaff will provide crucial leadership to a new-look Wildcats roster.
“Allowing Jesse the time to think about his future and what he wanted to do was always a part of our planning in how we were going to build next season’s team,” he said.
“We are very excited that he will be back in a Wildcats jersey in a leadership role to provide the mentorship and invaluable championship experience that will be crucial to developing our young core of players both on and off the court.”
