The newly founded Wildcats Academy will be put through its paces over the next couple of weeks when the young athletes suit up and take on three NBL1 West opponents.
Perth Wildcats Assistant Coach and Director of the Wildcats Academy Keegan Crawford has put in a tremendous amount of work with the team over the past five weeks, and competing against NBL1 teams is the next step in the evolution of the Academy.
Crawford said he’s excited with how the Wildcats Academy is progressing.
“The Academy is going really well so far,” he said.
“Having lots of kids from different backgrounds and putting them in a training environment, these games will allow us to see how far we’ve progressed in a short amount of time against a quality competition.
“Playing games is always a better way of identifying talent and developing future players, playing against NBL1 teams will provide the kids with a level of physicality and speed they might not have matched before so it will be good to see where they’re at.”
The Perth Wildcats schedule is as follows:
Tuesday 23 May, 6:30pm WST vs Perry Lakes Hawks @ Bendat Basketball Centre
Thursday 1 June, 8:00pm WST vs Warwick Senators @ Warwick Stadium
Monday 5 June, 7:30pm WST vs Willetton Tigers @ Willetton Basketball Stadium
All three games will be open to the public and will all be free of charge.
