Wildcats proud to make history with 16 Days in WA campaign

The Wildcats become the first WA professional sporting team to wear the campaign colour in a competitive fixture when they clash with Brisbane Bullets at RAC Arena on Friday night.

The Bullets have also jumped on the special cause, which seeks to end violence against women and shed a light on the issue.

The 2024 16 Days in WA campaign theme is Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part – and the Wildcats will embody that message by stepping on court in orange socks in front of over 10,000 thousand Western Australians, including many young families.

It sends a clear message that violence has no part in our society, communities, or in the family home.

“We’re proud to make history as the first professional sporting team in WA to change our socks to the 16 Days in WA campaign’s orange in support of such an important cause,” Wildcats owner Mark Arena said.

“As a family-first club, we want to help play our part in calling out violence against women.

“We urge the Red Army to follow suit of the players in wearing a splash of orange to the game against Brisbane on Friday 29 November at RAC Arena.

“We appreciate the support of the Bullets in also donning the orange socks as we unite to shed light on the issue.”

As a renowned family-friendly club, the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence, Sabine Winton has lauded the Wildcats’ leadership, and predicts the 10-time NBL Champions’ commitment to calling out violence will help promote positive community attitudes.

Minister Winton today joined club captain Jesse Wagstaff to announce the orange sock initiative and has thrown down the challenge to all Wildcats fans to add their own splash of orange amid the traditional sea of colour the Wildcats’ ‘Red Army’ passionately brings to all home matches at RAC Arena.

"I am thrilled the Perth Wildcats have joined the campaign to call for an end to violence against women. The Wildcats are a beloved Western Australian sporting brand and when they lead, others follow.

"I would urge all Wildcats fans to get behind their team and to get behind 16 Days in WA. Grab something orange and bring it to RAC Arena, together we can make a difference.

"Western Australians look up to their sporting heroes. The impact of professional athletes
saying no to violence cannot be understated.

"I would also like to thank the NBL and the Brisbane Bullets for supporting the Wildcats’ orange sock initiative for 16 Days in WA. I believe this can be the start of something big for basketball, but also for our community."
