Wildcats sign Angus Brandt as two-time champion returns to Perth

After an agreement to terms, the Perth Wildcats have signed Angus Brandt to a one-year deal, pending NBL approval.

The two-time NBL champion returns to Perth, adding valuable experience and a proven winning pedigree to the Wildcats’ frontcourt ahead of the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season.

Brandt made 94 appearances during his first stint with the Wildcats and was named the club’s Most Improved Player after helping Perth win the NBL17 championship in his opening season.

Among his standout performances, Brandt recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds in Game Two of the NBL17 Grand Final series and pulled down 20 rebounds in a 101–96 double overtime win over Melbourne United during the NBL19 championship campaign.

Speaking to Wildcats Media, Brandt said he was eager to return to Perth and pursue more success with the club.

“I’m really excited to come back to the Wildcats,” Brandt said.

“I can’t wait to play for the Red Army and fight for another championship.”

Brandt has spent the past six seasons in Japan, representing Shiga Lakestars, Kagawa Five Arrows, Ibaraki Robots, Shinshu Brave Warriors and, most recently, Veltex Shizuoka.

Head Coach John Rillie welcomed Brandt’s return to Perth.

“It’s terrific to have Angus back in Perth,” Rillie said.

“His experience as a championship performer is a valued asset for this roster.”

Across his NBL career, the former Australian Boomer has played 143 games, averaging 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Perth Wildcats COO and General Manager of Basketball Operations Danny Mills said Brandt’s return represented a special moment for everyone connected to the club.

“We’re thrilled that Angus has chosen to return to Perth in what is a real full-circle moment for him, his family and the club,” Mills said.

“His size, strength and championship experience will be invaluable to our group, and we look forward to seeing him compete in a Wildcats jersey again.”

Brandt joins Jaron Rillie, Elijah Pepper, Anthony Dell’Orso, Alex Higgins-Titsha, Cameron Huefner, Dylan Windler, Kristian Doolittle, Jesse Wagstaff and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. on Perth’s NBL27 roster, alongside Development Players Blake Nielsen, Marley Sam and Tana Kopa, and Nominated Replacement Player Jimmy Whitt.

The Wildcats will take the court for their first pre-season hitout on Friday 14 August, with the intra-squad game tipping off at 7pm at Eaton Recreation Centre.
