The Perth Wildcats proudly congratulate Alan Black and Damian Martin on their induction into the Basketball WA Hall of Fame, honouring two club legends whose influence has been felt across generations of Wildcats fans.
Alan Black’s association with the game stretches back to the beginning of the NBL, having played in the league’s inaugural season in 1979 before becoming part of the Wildcats’ early history.
Across almost five decades, Black has helped shape players, coaches and programs throughout Australian basketball, while his family has also shared a deep connection to the game in Western Australia.
One of the defining moments of Black’s career came in 2000, when he guided the Wildcats to the club’s fourth NBL championship as head coach.
His son Stephen was also a member of the title-winning roster, adding another memorable chapter to one of the club’s great family stories.
Damian Martin’s induction recognises a career that ranks among the finest in Perth Wildcats history.
Martin joined Perth in 2009 and went on to become the leader of one of the most successful eras in club history.
Martin won six championships with the Wildcats, captaining Perth to five titles and earning Grand Final MVP honours in 2016.
His reputation was built as one of the NBL’s most respected defensive players, setting the standard through his toughness, discipline, leadership and willingness to put the team first.
He also represented Australia at the Olympic Games, adding international honours to an already decorated career.
Across 12 seasons with the Wildcats, Martin forged a lasting bond with the Red Army that has extended well beyond his playing career and helped make him one of the most admired figures in WA sport.
Black and Martin represent different eras of Wildcats history, but both helped establish the values that continue to define the club.
Their Basketball WA Hall of Fame induction is fitting recognition of two outstanding careers and the enormous contribution each has made to the Perth Wildcats and the wider basketball community.
The Wildcats congratulate Alan Black and Damian Martin on this thoroughly deserved honour.
